Consider two cards with real numbers written on them. You unfold one of them and see the number written on it.
What is the optimal strategy to guess if the number written on the other card is higher or lower than the one drawn?
The hint given to me by an IMO medallist: Take a function $F:\mathbb{R}\to[0,1]$ and map the drawn number to it.
Kind of stumped. Any ideas?
