I am new to 3D printing. I have an STL model for a 2.5" medallion I want to print on my Creality K1 (1.75 mm PLA filament through a 0.4 mm nozzle) via Creality Print 6.1. Speed and temperature settings are defaults (220 °C nozzle, outer wall speed is 200 mm/s, 0.2 mm layer height). When I print, I get visible filament lines on top surfaces and most of the detail is lost to visible layer steps. Can I improve on it, and if so, how?

Below is a rendering of the STL file in FreeCAD:

Below is what I got.

Print on the side.

Layer heights are your limiter in Z, but you can get rounded profiles much more smoothly by printing the curves in XY, provided it is deep enough. Sometimes, finding the right print orientation is tricky.
