I have a single-filament printer and am trying to switch colors on the same layer. I print a row of text, swap filament, then print the surrounding area. My text is usually perfect but afterwards, when printing the second color it starts dragging around the text. Any ideas on how to stop? I've already tested temps, speed, Z-hop, and retraction, but any suggestions are helpful!

A nozzle is not infinitely thin, around the hole is material:
If you print first in one color, not always the then printed material is of the initial layer height, frequently, but depending on printer and tuning, the deposited filament may be higher in some spots (e.g. caused by retraction). If you print your next color, you might touch this already deposited filament as the nozzle will lay a layer next to the deposited prints and smear it out.
