Is there a command I can give the Monero daemon to calculate the total of all coinbase transactions so far? How do block explorers calculate the Monero coin supply and how can I verify their accuracy?

What is StringCT?

I saw some recent comments about RuffCT/StringCT, which is a supposed improvement to RingCT. What is RuffCT/StringCT, and how is it different than RingCT? What improvements (if any) will this bring to Monero? What tradeoffs are there?

Why will the v5 fork raise the min block size to 300,000 bytes?

Why will the v5 fork raise the min block size to 300,000 bytes? v5 is now used for an increased minimum block size (from 60000 to 300000) to cater for larger typical/minimum transaction size. I know that there have been some transaction waiting…

What is Monero's mechanism for defending against a double-spend attack?

The title says it all, but I want to frame the issue two ways, in hopes of a slightly more in-depth answer. With Bitcoin, the blockchain is transparent. In the "ordinary course of business" in the world of Bitcoin, it's rather simple for miners to…

I'm on an i7 core but monerod consumes up to 300% CPU at times. When I am catching up on the blockchain, it renders my computer nearly unusable. Is this normal? When the chain is synced, CPU use is OK.
